Beware that if you are applying for a VA loan that the house you are looking at may need several updates to qualify for the loan.  For instance, is the door from the attached or integral  garage to the home a 90 minute fire rated door?  and is the garage walls or ceiling that is exposed to the finished area covered with a firerated material?  Just two items that may come up as well as the usual chipping and peeling paint, hand rails , etc.
